Our first two hoops broadcasts of 2019 will be a great way to start off the new year.
On Friday night, the Vanguard boys’ basketball team will host rival Forest in a city showdown from Ocala. It’s also a key Class 7A-District 4 game, with visiting Forest (9-2 overall) entering the game on top of the league standings at 2-1.
Vanguard (1-1) is just a half a game back, so it will be for first place in a competitive 5-team district that includes Gainesville, Lake Weir (Ocala) & Columbia (Lake City) all within a half a game or a game of each other.
The game will be broadcast on AM-900 in Ocala, as well as 92.1 FM in Gainesville beginning at 7 p.m. The tip is at 7:30 p.m. Click here to listen online.
Then on Saturday, two of the top players in the country will go head-to-head on when The Villages travel to Bishop Snyder (Jacksonville).
The visiting Buffalo are led by Gators’ signee Tre Mann (6-3, 170), the No. 26 overall senior in the country according to 247Sports, while Corey Walker (6-6, 185), the No. 31 overall junior in the country, leads the Cardinals.
The Villages (7-3) is ranked 10th in Class 5A by MaxPreps. Bishop Snyder (6-5) is ranked 7th in Class 4A.
