GAINESVILLE – There are changes in the Prep Zone Power Poll, but the team at the top remains dominant and unanimous.

Top-ranked Mainland (Daytona Beach) opened District 13-6A play last week by crushing Pine Ridge (Deltona), 69-14.  mainlandWith the runaway win, the Bucs (4-0) remain the unanimous top team this week in the regional football rankings.

Mainland, which remained 3rd in the AP state football rankings, has been #1 in the regional power poll every week since the preseason rankings. They do face a major test this week at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium against Dr. Phillips (Orlando), which is ranked 7th in the latest AP 8A state poll after a 15-14 setback last week to the 8A #1 Apopka.

The new No. 2 team this week behind Mainland is Vanguard (Ocala).

Last week, the Knights (3-0) rolled past Lakewood (St. Petersburg), 55-16, as quarterback N’kosi Perry became the new school record holder in career touchdown passes, moving past former Vanguard star Daunte Culpepper. They also face a major test this week as they host 7th-ranked Buchholz (Gainesville).

Bolles (Jacksonville) is third after opening District 2-4A play with an easy 58-6 win at Jackson (Jacksonville). The Bulldogs (3-0) have had a running clock in the 2nd half of every game so far this season, and this week face another Jackson, from Miami, in a game that was originally scheduled for September 2nd but was rescheduled to this Friday due to Hurricane Hermine.

Their district rival, Raines (Jacksonville), also had no problem with its district opener, hammering Fernandina Beach, 53-7. The Vikings (3-0) move up two spots to 4th this week.

Rounding out the top five is Trinity Christian (Jacksonville), which drops three spots after a surprising 25-22 home loss to 7A Lincoln (Tallahassee).

The three-time defending 3A state champion Conquerors (2-2) have nearly lost as many games this season as they had in the previous three years combined (three). The loss to Lincoln also ended a 22 game home winning streak for Trinity Christian dating back to a week 2 game in 2013 against Warner Christian (South Daytona).

Leading off the second five is Mandarin (Jacksonville), which improved to 3-0 with a 33-7 win at DeLand in the District 1-8A opener.

Buchholz moves up a spot again this week to No. 7 after another comeback victory, 10-7, over District 3-7A rival Oakleaf (Orange Park). The Bobcats (3-0), who travel to No. 2 Vanguard, won a classic 33-32 thriller last year against the Knights at Citizens Field.
Dunnellon (3-0) is 8th this week after handing Belleview and new head coach John Brantley its first loss of the season, 19-7.

Sandalwood (Jacksonville) moves up two spots and into the top ten at #9 after rallying to win the District 1-8A opener at Spruce Creek (Port Orange), 17-14.

University (Orange City) dropped its first game of the season, 35-21, at district rival and 8A state-ranked Seminole (Sanford). The Titans (3-1) drop five spots but still manage to round out the top 10.

Changes this week in the second 10 see Baker County moving into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 16. The Wildcats (3-0), who own a victory over St. Augustine in Week #1, rolled in their District 5-5A opener, 45-14, against Menendez (St. Augustine).

Lee (Jacksonville) moves into the rankings for the first time this season after a 28-7 win at District 2-7A rival Columbia (Lake City). The Generals (2-1) replace the Tigers (1-3), who have now dropped three in a row and fall out of the poll for the first time this season.

Also dropping out this week is Fleming Island (Orange Park), which dropped its District 3-7A opener, 10-0, at 11th-ranked Bartram Trail (St. Johns).
