GAINESVILLE (June 6) – Seniors Anthony Schwartz of American Heritage High School in Plantation and Caitlin Collier of The Bolles School in Jacksonville were named the 2018 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. and Miss Track following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school track and field coaches and media representatives.
Schwartz, won state titles in both the 100 (10.07) and 200 meters (20.41), posting state championship record times in both events, which were also the fastest times in the nation this year. He also anchored the state-title winning 400-meter relay team. He has signed to play football at Auburn University this fall.
Schwartz, who was earlier named the Class 2A boys’ track-athlete-of-the-year, won this year’s Mr. Track award with 107 points, finishing ahead of Class 1A award winner Alex Shields of The First Academy (61), Class 3A winner Michael Phillips of Chiles (59) and Class 4A track athlete-of-the-year Jaasiel Torres of Sarasota. (48).
Collier, who was a unanimous choice for this year’s award, wrapped up an illustrious high school career by winning her fifth straight 800-meter title with a state-record and 2018 national-best time of 2:02.77, added a fourth straight 1,600-meter title and anchored the winning 4×800 relay team. After finishing her high school career with 11 individual state titles, Collier will attend Stanford on a track scholarship this fall.
Collier, the 2016 Miss Track award winner, was earlier named this year’s Class 2A girls’ track-athlete-of-the-year and won this year’s Miss Track award with 110 points, finishing ahead of Class 3A track athlete-of-the-year Tamari Davis of Gainesville (73), Class 1A award winner Semaj McGhee of Bishop Snyder (49) and Class 4A award winner Zatoria Thompson of St. Thomas Aquinas (45).
The Florida Dairy Farmers Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 26th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in an all-time high 30 sanctioned and recognized FHSAA sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
