Our Sonic Player of the Game for Thursday, February 16, is Trent Whittemore of the Buchholz boys’ basketball team.

The sophomore scored a game-high 28 points, 14 in each half, in a losing effort as Buchholz dropped its Region 1-8A quarterfinal game at Lee (Jacksonville), 59-54. Whittemore knocked down two three pointers and single-handedly kept the Bobcats in the game as they pulled within one point of Lee on two separate occasions early in the fourth quarter.

Whittemore averaged 19.5 points this season, including a career-high 43 points in a win at Vanguard (Ocala) earlier this season, and averaged over 30 points a game in one four-game span. The Bobcats’ season ends at 14-13.

Our Sonic Player of the Game for Tuesday, February 14, is Mya McGraw of the P.K. Yonge girls’ basketball team.

The 8th grader didn’t score in the first quarter, but ended up with a career-high 20 points and six rebounds as the Lady Blue Wave lost the Region 1-4A final at Providence (Jacksonville) 63-56. She averaged 4.8 points during the regular season, but put together a career-high in points as P.K. Yonge led late before Providence went on a 13-4 run to pull away and clinch their first state semifinal appearance in program history. P.K. Yonge’s season ended at 24-3.
