GAINESVILLE — The class finalists for the 2017 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball and Softball Coach of the Year have been announced following balloting by a statewide panel of high school softball coaches and prep media representatives.
Every finalist was the leading vote-getter in their classification, making each one the Player of the Year or Coach of the Year in their class. The two overall winners will be announced following a final round of balloting by coaches and media.
Following are the Miss Softball Award finalists. Area winners in bold:
Morgan Arcia, Senior, First Baseman, West Orange (Winter Garden), Class 9A Player of the Year
Arcia, a Daytona State College signee, led West Orange to the state title by posting a .471 batting average with 14 doubles, five home runs, 28 runs scored and 38 runs batted in.
Kelsey Sweatt, Senior, Pitcher, Oakleaf (Orange Park), Class 8A Player of the Year
Sweatt, a University of South Carolina-Upstate signee led Oakleaf to the state title with a 16-2 record, posting an 0.45 ERA in 109 innings with 136 strikeouts.
Hannah Perkins, Junior, Pitcher, Fort Myers, Class 7A Player of the Year
Perkins led her squad to the state title with a 22-1 record, posting an 0.76 ERA in 148 innings pitched while striking out 205 batters and walking only 18 hitters.
Callie Turner, Sophomore, Pitcher, Land O’Lakes, Class 6A Player of the Year
Turner led her squad to the state title with a 17-2 record, posting an 0.21 ERA in 133 innings with 249 strikeouts. She also tossed four no-hitters during the season.
Allison Muraskin, Senior, Pitcher, Coral Springs Charter, Class 5A Player of the Year
The University of Central Florida signee and last year’s Class 5A Player-of-the-Year led her squad to its third straight state title by compiling a 30-1 record with an 0.26 ERA
and had 269 strikeouts in 161 innings pitched.
Victoria Perez, Junior, Pitcher/Catcher, Westminster Christian (Miami), Class 4A Player of the Year
Perez led her team to the state title by posting a 12-3 record with a 2.12 ERA. She hit .413 with 6 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 27 runs scored and 35 runs batted in.
Ashley Rosado, Senior, Pitcher/Shortstop, John Carroll (Ft. Pierce), Class 3A Player of the Year
Rosado posted a 14-4 record with a 1.61 ERA and batted .404 with four home runs, 41 runs scored
and 29 runs batted in while leading her team to the state title.
Taylor Bump, Senior, Shortstop, Canterbury (St. Petersburg), Class 2A Player of the Year
The University of Michigan signee posted a .532 batting average with eight doubles, three triples, a state-leading 16 home runs, 44 runs scored and 49 runs batted in for the state champions.
Devin Lewis, Senior, Catcher, Union County (Lake Butler), Class 1A Player of the Year
The Stetson University signee led her team to the state title by hitting .479 with eight doubles, five home runs and 43 runs batted in.
Following are the Softball Coach of the Year finalists:
Todd LaNeave, West Orange (Winter Garden), Class 9A Coach of the Year
In his fourth year at West Orange, LaNeave led his squad to a 28-3 record and its second straight state championship. He has a career record of 107-14.
Christina Thompson, Oakleaf, Class 8A Coach of the Year
In her seventh year at Oakleaf, Thompson led her squad to a 30-2 record and the Class 8A state title. Her career record at the school is 150-48.
Johnny Manetta, Fort Myers, Class 7A Coach of the Year
In his sixth year at Fort Myers, Manetta posted a 30-2 record and won the Class 7A
state championship. His career mark is 128-40.
Mitch Wilkins, Land O’Lakes, Class 6A Coach of the Year
In his fourth year at the school, Wilkins posted a 29-3 record and won the 6A state title. He has a 93-22 record at Land O’Lakes, including another Final Four appearance in 2016.
Mark Montimurro, Coral Springs Charter, Class 5A Coach of the Year
Montimurro led his team to a 30-1 record and its third straight state championship in his fifth year at the school. Montimurro, who won two state titles at Hollywood Christian and was named state coach-of-the-year in 2004, has a 437-106 record during his 19-year career.
Scott Doan, Westminster Christian (Miami), Class 4A Coach of the Year
In his 13th year at the school, and 26th year overall, Doan led his squad to a 27-5 record and the state title. He has a 310-79 record with two other state titles (2009 and 2014) plus four other Final Four appearances at Westminster and an overall career mark of 615-157.
Rico Rosado, John Carroll (Ft. Pierce), Class 3A Coach of the Year
In his fourth year at John Carroll, Rosado had a 20-9 record and won the state title after making a Final Four appearance in 2016. His career record is 68-36.
Jody Moore, Canterbury (St. Petersburg), Class 2A Coach of the Year
In her 12th year at Canterbury, Moore posted a 24-7 record and won her fourth state title (2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017) to go along with a state runnerup finish (2009). Her career record is 257-88.
Andrew Strickland, Union County (Lake Butler), Class 1A Coach of the Year
Strickland led his squad to a 24-2 record and the Class 1A state title. In three years at Union County he has posted a 56-11 record, including another Final Four appearance in 2016.
