Sports-Award-Logo_Color_Florida Dairy FarmerGAINESVILLE (Dec. 7) – Tanya Jarvis of Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando has been selected as the 2016 Florida Dairy Farmers Girls’ Volleyball Coach-of-the-Year following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school volleyball coaches and state media representatives.

Jarvis had been previously selected the Class 6A Coach of the Year after leading her squad to a sparkling 29-1 record and the Hornets second straight state championship, this one coming on the heels of last year’s Class 5A title. Unbeaten against Florida competition, the team’s lone loss came against Mater Dei High School of Santa Ana, CA in the Nike Tournament of Champions, with Bishop Moore earning the No. 13 ranking in the USA TODAY Final Top 25 volleyball rankings. Jarvis, who has won four state titles (2012-13-15-16), was also named Girls’ Volleyball Coach-of-the-Year in 2012.

Jarvis received seven of the 19 first-place votes to total 141 points in winning this year’s award in a close vote over Class 7A COY Jessica Warren of state champion South Fork (132) and Class 8A COY Lisa Zielinski of state champion Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (128). Rounding out the voting were Class 9A COY Amanda Angermeier of state champion Boca Raton (104), Class 1A COY Sheila Roberts of four-time state champion Sneads (88), Class 5A COY Julie Doan Kurenuma of state champion Westminster Christian (82), Class 2A COY Jason LaBorde of state champion St. John Lutheran (73), Class 4A COY Haley Malone of state champion The First Academy (61) and Class 3A COY Jesus Montalvo of state champion St. Francis (56).

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This marks the 25th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
