Oak Ridge’s Antonio Blakeney Named Florida Mr. Basketball
GAINESVILLE (March 30) – Senior guard Antonio Blakeney of Oak Ridge High School in Orlando has been named the 2015 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school basketball coaches and media representatives.
Blakeney, a McDonald’s All-American and Louisiana State University commitment, was recently named Class 8A Player-of-the-Year after averaging 29.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in leading Oak Ridge to a 22-7 record and a spot in the regional finals.
Blakeney tallied six of 19 first-place votes and totaled 156 points with Independent POY and fellow McDonald’s All-American Ben Simmons of Montverde Academy garnering seven first-place votes and 114 points overall. Class 3A POY Ryan McMahon, a University of Louisville commitment, finished a close third with 112 points.
Class 5A POY Maverick Rowan (102) of Cardinal Gibbons was fourth, with Class 4A POY John Collins (89) of Cardinal Newman finishing fifth and Class 6A POY Dewan Huell (87) of Miami Norland in sixth place. Class 7A POY and Boston College signee Matt Milon (84) of Oviedo, Class 1A POY Trent Forrest (77) of Chipley and Class 2A POY Marquill Smith (53) of Miami Christian rounded out the voting.
The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 23rd year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
