Outlook: The Hornets have a great motto for 2014: Brick by brick. They are hoping to continue to build on being competitive in just their third season of varsity football, along with their tough district.
O’Gorman, who was moved to running back this past May, had a 47-yard scoring run in the spring game. The battle for quarterback will be between sophomore Alec Cromie, who started on JV last season, and Gulf transfer Aaron Arnold. Patterson, who led the county and district in receptions, returns for his senior season.
Weeki Wachee’s offensive success will depend on their new QB and his leadership qualities, but Spaulding returns at center and will be a three-year starter. The Hornets will have some inexperience on the offensive line but they will have size.
On defense, Hartman (59 tackles in ’13) and Tinch, who is receiving interest from D-I schools, return on the defensive line. For the Hornets to be successful in 2014, they will have to do a better job of tackling, eliminate turnovers on offense, and do a much better job in the red zone.
