Trophy Shop Athlete-of-the-Week Presented by Mark McGriff’s State Farm Insurance of Gainesville for the week of March 11 is Ashton Adkins of the Bradford (Starke) softball team
- Adkins helped Bradford go 3-0 last week by tossing three scoreless games. Against the top-ranked team in Class 1A, Lafayette (Mayo), the junior struck out eight and allowed only four hits in a 1-0 complete-game victory. She followed that up with a one-hitter in a 12-0 win against district foe Williston in which she struck out 16 of the 25 batters she faced. She also added a home run in that game for the unbeaten Tornadoes (14-0). Adkins recorded a 3-0 shutout of Santa Fe (Alachua) the following day.
Sonic Player-of-the-Game for Friday, March 15, was Brooks Morgan of the Buchholz (Gainesville) baseball team
- Morgan went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI’s as Buchholz blasted Gainesville, 23-0. The senior, who will play at UCF next season, also had a double.
