Columbia (Lake City) & Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) a unanimous 1-2 in all-classification regional football rankings
GAINESVILLE – The top two teams in The Prep Zone Power Poll powered by Strive Fitness remain the same.
In fact, they are both unanimous selections.
Columbia (Lake City), which is still ranked 2nd in the Associated Press Class 7A state poll, is still o top. The Tigers (3-0) once again received all 10 first-place votes following a 39-0 win at previous No. 14 Buchholz (Gainesville), which dropped out of this week’s poll.
Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) remained second in the all-classification regional rankings. The Conquerors (3-0), ranked third in Class 5A, defeated Terry Parker (Jacksonville), 44-0, to receive all 10 2nd-place votes.
Class 6A Vanguard (Ocala) edged North Marion (Citra), 20-14, to remain third. The Knights (3-0) will look to stay unbeaten at Dunnellon this week.
Robert E. Lee (Jacksonville), which plays at top-ranked Columbia on Friday in a Class 7A-District 2 showdown, moved up one spot from fifth to fourth. The Generals (3-0) won at Mandarin (Jacksonville), 38-13.
Defending 1A state champion Madison County (3-0) rounds out the top five. The Cowboys actually dropped one spot despite rallying from a 10-point deficit to win at Florida High (Tallahassee), 33-17.
Raines (Jacksonville), last year’s 4A state champ, moved up two spots from eighth to sixth following a 48-6 win at Ed White (Jacksonville). The Vikings (2-1) are followed in the top 10 by DeLand, Bolles (Jacksonville), Bartram Trail (St. Johns), and Sandalwood (Jacksonville) & Menendez, which are tied for 10th.
There are three new teams to the rankings this week.
Class 7A Fletcher (Neptune Fletcher), which won at Englewood (Jacksonville), 47-7, is ranked 17th, followed by No. 18 Baldwin. The Class 3A Indians (3-0) move into the top 20 following a 50-49 win at previous #17 Dixie County (Cross City).
Eastside (Gainesville) moves in at No. 19 following a 64-0 win at Central (Brooksville).
The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters and it is powered by Strive Fitness.
