Our Sonic Player-of-the-game for Thursday, September 7, is Matt Armstrong of the Oak Hall (Gainesville) football team.
The senior accounted for all six touchdowns in the Eagles’ 41-7 win against visiting Bronson. He had four passing scores to three different receivers and two running scores.
Armstrong completed a 58-yard touchdown pass to Austin Gill down the left sidelines for the Eagles’ first score with 9:39 to play in the opening quarter. It was one of four scores that spanned 40 or more yards.
He added a 40-yard scoring run and a 6-yard TD pass to Austin Gill to give Oak Hall (2-0) a 20-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Armstrong completed a 43-yard pass for a TD to sophomore Rocky DiBernardo. That extended the lead to 28-0 following Armstrong’s 2-point conversion run with 6:43 to play in the third quarter.
He would finish with a 15-yard TD run and a 47-yard scoring pass to senior Joe Ruth.
