The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Tuesday, Jan. 10, was Anthony Leivonen of the Gainesville boys basketball team.

Leivonen scored 17 points to help lead GHS to a 63-62 win against Columbia (Lake City) at the Purple Palace.

The junior scored nine of his points in the third quarter, including a 3-pointer for a 43-42 lead. He also added a 3-pointer to bring the Hurricanes (13-4) within one, 54-53, with 6:31 to play.

“He is an offensive-minded guy and he does not shy away from taking shots, and he shouldn’t because he’s a really good player and he can knock them down,” said Gainesville coach Mike Barnes.

GHS will play at city rival Eastside on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be audio streamed online at MainStreetDailyNews.com.
