Ribault’s Rennia Davis Named 2017 Miss Basketball

Sports-Award-Logo_Color_Florida Dairy FarmerGAINESVILLE (March 10) – Senior Rennia Davis of Ribault High School in Jacksonville has been named the 2017 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school coaches and media representatives.

Davis, a 6-2 guard who is a 2017 McDonald’s All-American and has signed with the University of Tennessee, averaged 26.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game in leading the Trojans to a 26-3 record and their second straight Class 6A state championship.

Davis, who was earlier named the Class 6A player-of-the-year, dominated the voting, receiving 17 of the 19 first-place votes and 185 points to finish ahead of Class 4A POY and University of Illinois signee Channise Lewis of Miami Country Day School (142) and Class 8A POY and University of South Carolina signee LaDazhia Williams of Bradenton Lakewood Ranch (112).

Class 9A POY Natalia Pineda of Miami Ferguson finished fourth (105), with Class 7A POY Destanni Henderson of Ft. Myers (97) in fifth place. Rounding out the voting in order were Class 3A POY and Appalachian State signee Dominique Jeffrey of Tallahassee FAMU (74), Class 5A POY Sophia Poveda of Miami Westminster Christian (59), Class 2A POY Megan Rampersad of Boca Raton Grandview Prep (56) and Class 1A POY Teiyahna Hutchinson of Port St. Joe (44).

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 25th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
