Prep Zone Power Poll – 2015 Football Poll #8

Gainesville – There was a shake-up in this week’s Prep Zone Power Poll as four top 10 teams lost, including the top-ranked team.

Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) moves to No. 1 following Mainland’s (Daytona Beach) 47-28 loss at St. Edward (Lakewood, OH) in a match-up of nationally-ranked teams.

The Class 6A Bucs (6-1) dropped to third, while the Conquerors (6-0), the top-ranked team in the Class 3A AP state poll, moved up one spot to #1 following a 56-31 win at 5A state runner-up Godby (Tallahassee).

North Marion (Citra), which is off to its best start in school history, moved up one spot to second following a 37-0 win against 8A Lake Worth. The Colts (7-0) are ranked fourth in Class 5A.

Previous No. 4 Bolles (Jacksonville) lost for the first time this season. The Bulldogs (6-1), who dropped from first to second in the 4A state rankings, lost to #8 Columbia (Lake City), 49-20, and fell five spots to ninth in this week’s regional rankings.

With the win, the Class 7A Tigers (5-1) moved up three spots to fifth, one spot behind No. 4 Raines (Jacksonville) (6-0), which is the new #1 team in the 4A state rankings.

Unbeaten St. Augustine (6-0), which was off last week, remained sixth, followed by Buchholz (Gainesville) (5-1), Mandarin (Jacksonville) (6-0), Bolles and Oakleaf (Orange Park) (5-1) in the top 10.

Vanguard (Ocala) is back in the rankings at No. 20. On Thursday night, the Knights (4-2) travel to Gainesville (4-3), which dropped out of the rankings following a 32-28 loss to rival Buchholz, for a key Class 6A-District 5 game.

Class 2A University Christian (Jacksonville) fell out of the rankings despite a 76-0 win against Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville). UCS (5-1) is the top-ranked team in Class 2A.

In other matchups involving top 20 teams, #3 Mainland hosts #17 Matanzas (Palm Coast) in a battle of unbeaten teams and #8 Mandarin is at #14 Sandalwood (Jacksonville).

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
