There was little movement in this week’s poll as none of the top 20 teams lost last week
Gainesville – This week’s Prep Zone Power Poll is very similar to last week’s.
That’s because none of the teams in the top 20 lost and the top 15 teams remained the same. There was light shuffling of the bottom five but no teams dropped out of the rankings this week.
Mainland (Daytona Beach) received seven of the 10 first place-votes to remain on top. The Bucs (6-0), ranked No. 1 in the Class 6A AP state poll, travel to St. Edward (Lakewood, OH) this Saturday for a match-up of nationally-ranked teams.
Two-time defending Class 3A state champion Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) remained second following a 43-0 win over Providence (Jacksonville). The Conquerors (6-0) received the other three first-place votes.
Class 5A North Marion (Citra) (6-0) remained third, while 4A-District 2 foes Bolles (Jacksonville) (6-0) and Raines (Jacksonville) (5-0) are still fourth and fifth, respectively.
Rounding out the top 10 were St. Augustine (6-0) at No. 6, followed by South Sumter (Bushnell) (6-0), Columbia (Lake City) (4-1), Buchholz (Gainesville) (3-1) and Sandalwood (Jacksonville) (6-0).
Dunnellon (6-0), which is ranked top 10 in the state poll for the first time since 2005, moved up one spot to No. 16, while Class 1A Union County (Lake Butler) (5-0), which was off last week, dropped one spot to 17th and is tied with Suwannee (Live Oak), which also moved up one spot.
While no teams dropped out, there was one team that moved in. For the first time this season, Nature Coast (Brooksville) is ranked as the 5A Sharks (5-0) moved into a tie for No. 20 with University Christian (Jacksonville).
The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
