Prep Zone Power Poll – 2013 Softball Poll #6

creekside knights

Gainesville – With a postseason berth in hand, the top-ranked team in the softball Prep Zone Power Poll will try to erase the memory of coming up short last season.

Creekside (St. Johns), which was a unanimous selection as the No. 1 team, had already secured a bye to the Class 5A-District 5 championship game as the top seed in a three-team district with Bartram Trail (St. Johns) (20-4), ranked 3rd in this week’s poll, and Clay (Green Cove Springs).

Last season, the Knights (22-2) were eliminated in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals by Belleview, 3-2, but the Rattlers, ranked 10th, were upset in the district semifinals on Tuesday night. Creekside will either host or travel for the first round of the 5A state playoffs next Wednesday.

Bradford (Starke) remained second. The Tornadoes (23-2) went 3-0 last week, including a 4-2 win over previous #10 Lafayette (Mayo) – their second win against the Hornets this season.

Bishop Snyder (Jacksonville) (21-4) and PK Yonge (Gainesville) (22-2), who could meet in a 3A regional final rematch for the right to go to the final four, are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

North Marion (Citra) (18-5) is ranked sixth, followed by Columbia (Lake City) (20-4), Baker County (Glen St. Mary) (18-2), Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville) (17-4) and Belleview (18-7) in the top 10.

Montverde Academy is in the top 20 for the first time this season at No. 20. The Eagles (17-6) have won 10 in a row since a 1-0 loss to #14 East Ridge (Clermont).

Prep Zone Power Poll – 2013 Baseball Poll #5

Clay

Gainesville – The top two teams remained the same in the baseball Prep Zone Power Poll.

Clay (Green Cove Springs) received four of the seven first-place votes and stayed at No. 1. The Blue Devils (13-3) are still ahead of Forest (Ocala), who swept two games from previous #3 Buchholz (Gainesville), which dropped three spots to sixth.

The Wildcats (16-2), who have won seven in a row, edged Bolles (Jacksonville) for the other three first-place votes, 2-1, and they are ranked second and third respectively.

Bishop Kenny and Spruce Creek round out the top five.

The Crusaders (16-4) are ranked fourth, followed by the Hawks (15-6), who began the season ranked No. 1 in the country, at No. 5.

The only team to fall from the rankings was Fleming Island (Orange Park), which went 1-1 last week including a 4-3 loss to 6th-ranked Fletcher (Neptune Beach).
