Region 6A-2 finals

Tampa Jesuit (24-5) at North Marion (21-8)

Winner gets: Rockledge or Archbishop McCarthy in state semifinals at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers

Scouting report: North Marion won its third game in four tries against county and district rival Belleview in last week’s 6A-2 semifinals. The 3-2 win also saw the return of pitcher Tony Morales to the Colts’ starting rotation. The senior made his first start since March 8 and went six innings surrendering only two hits with seven strikeouts. Freshman Tyler Owens and senior Evan Vandeventer have also had multiple quality appearances from the mound during the Colts’ playoff run. Vandeventer, the Colts starting second baseman, gave NMHS a 2-1 lead against BHS with his first home run of the season. Catcher Braden Ramirez drove in the winning run against the Rattlers on Tuesday and has six RBIs over his last three games. Morales (.526, 16 RBIs), SS Matt Lasher (.418, 16 RBIs, 19 SB), CF Don Yaney (.403, 18 RBIs, 10 SB), LF Trey Szot (.337, 17 RBIs), Vandeventer (.330, 1 HR, 16 RBIs), Ramirez (.333, HR, 24 RBIs), RF Cody Drivas (.304, 13 RBIs), and 3B Nick Wright (.292, 5 HR, 28 RBIs) round out the Colts’ lineup.

Jesuit sophomore pitcher Jack Anderson threw a one-hitter while striking out five and walking only two on an 85-pitch night. Steven Lugo (.411, HR, 21 RBIs) and Alex Moncy (.345, 10 RBIs) are the top offensive producers for Jesuit, which won the 5A state title in 2014.
