Our Sonic Player-of-the-game for Friday, April 21, is Kyler Marquis of the Gainesville baseball team.
The senior went 2-for-3 with walk, an RBI and a run scored as GHS defeated rival Buchholz, 7-1. With the win, the Hurricanes (17-5) swept the season series 2-0.
Marquis had a double off the left field wall in the first inning. He also singled in a run in the fourth inning as part of a five-run inning as the ‘Canes took a commanding 7-0 lead after four.
He also played stellar defense and recorded five putouts at shortstop.
The ‘Canes and also won the city championship for the first time since 2007 by going undefeated against area competition.
Gainesville returns to action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when it hosts 5A #3 Suwannee (Live Oak).
