2015 PREVIEW: In his first season as head coach, Corey Green, who was hired in late June 2014, was a head coach previously at Hamilton County (Jasper) from 2005-2007. Green, who is the son of longtime coach Danny Green, replaced Steve Reynolds, who went to Oakleaf (Orange Park) to join former Bradford coach Derek Chipoletti’s coaching staff. Green struggled in his first season as the Tornadoes finished 1-9 last year.
Bradford comes into the 2015 season as a relatively young team with only one senior on the offensive line and only one senior on the defensive line. Green is hoping that the team’s improvements over the offseason can compensate for its youth. It was a very productive offseason with the hire of Coach Bobby Johns, who has assumed responsibility for the weightlifting program, and the players are making a lot of progress in the strength program.
“This year’s district will be very competitive but like everyone else our goal is to make the playoffs,” said Green.
The Tornadoes replace The Villages and Umatilla with Alachua County schools P.K. Yonge and Santa Fe in their challenging district. Umatilla and The Villages have moved over to District 4, while league favorite Santa Fe drops from 5A to the new 4A-District 3.
