Vanguard (Ocala) hosts Armwood (Seffner) with Class 6A state semifinal spot on the line
The Prep Zone is heading south on Black Friday and will originate a radio (92.1 FM & 1230 AM Gainesville & 900 AM Ocala) and video broadcast (via the NFHS Network) from Vanguard (Ocala).
The Knights (12-0) host the Armwood (Seffner) Hawks on Friday, November 23, in a Class 6A-Region 2 Final. The winner advances to the state semifinals to play the winner of the Navarre-Crestview game.
Vanguard, the top seed in the regional, eliminated Lake Wales last week, 19-0. It was the sixth time that the Knights, ranked third in 6A in the final regular season AP state rankings, had held an opponent to seven points or less, including both times (d. Sebring, 35-7) in the state playoffs.
Armwood (11-1), the No. 2 seed in the region, is ranked fourth in the state. They are the defending state runners-up, falling to Miami Northwestern in last year’s state championship game.
The Hawks cruised to a 65-7 win against Lake Weir (Ocala), which had just won its first playoff game in school history the week before at Mitchell (New Port Richey). Armwood defeated Vanguard, 31-17, in last year’s region final in Seffner.
