As we embark on another sports season, it’s important to reflect on the season that is concluding.
Our coverage of hoops isn’t completely over until next Tuesday, March 20, when the Alachua County & Marion County Basketball All-Star teams go head-to-head at Vanguard (Ocala). We will have ‘live’ radio coverage of the game on 92.1 FM & 1230 AM in Gainesville and 100.1 FM & 900 AM in Ocala.
Thanks to our partnership with The Rock and Eastside High School, plus tournaments in December and January, The Prep Zone will conclude its broadcast coverage for the Winter with a record 80 basketball broadcasts. To put things in perspective, we averaged 5.3 basketball broadcasts per week during our 15 weeks of coverage.
We began our spring broadcast schedule with ‘live’ and ‘archived’ video of Gainesville at Columbia (Lake City) softball – via the NFHS Network. The game, which featured nationally-ranked GHS against the team that eliminated them in last year’s Class 7A state semifinals, ended up going into extra innings, providing a great start to our regular season coverage.
Each week during the spring, two baseball and/or softball games will be broadcast on local radio and online. A minimum of 17 games will be broadcast, including the postseason (broadcast schedule listed below).
In addition to our ‘live’ sports broadcasts, tune in to our weekly high school show, “The Prep Zone,” featuring a different high school team every Monday from 7-8 p.m. at Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville, and every Wednesday from Sonic Drive-In of Ocala. Both shows air on The Goat FM (92.1 FM & 1230 AM in Gainesville and 100.1 FM & 900 AM in Ocala).
