2016 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Golf and Miss Golf

Sports-Award-Logo_Color_Florida Dairy FarmerGAINESVILLE  – Seniors Brandon Mancheno of Mandarin High School (Jacksonville) and Kendall Griffin of Sebring High School have been named the 2016 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Golf and Miss Golf in a vote of the state’s district golf chairmen.

Tampa Plant coach Tom Feeney and Lake Mary coach Dennis Burchill have been named the state boys’ and girls’ Golf Coaches-of-the-Year after leading their teams to state championships.

Mancheno won the Class 3A boys’ state championship with a 36-hole score of 3-under par 141 (70-71), while Griffin won the Class 2A girls’ state title after firing rounds of 68-72 for a 4-under par 140 total.

Cody Carroll, a junior at Middleburg High School who won the Class 2A state title and Eugene Hong a junior at Circle Christian School who captured the Class 1A state title, were the other Mr. Golf finalists. On the girls’ side, Erika Smith, a sophomore at Lake Nona High School who was the Class 3A state champ and Mimi Chen, a freshman at Lake Mary Prep who won the Class 1A state title, were the other finalists for Miss Golf.

Feeney led Plant to the Class 3A state title and Hillsborough County’s first boys’ state golf title in 46 years with a team score of 606 while Burchill led Lake Mary to its second straight Class 3A title with a team score of 614. In addition, Brandt Moser of American Heritage School (2A) and Kyle McClone of Windermere Prep (1A) were named boys’ Coaches-of-the-Year in their classifications while Carl Phillips of Archbishop McCarthy (2A) and Mike Jamison of Lake Mary Prep (1A) were named Coaches-of-the-Year in the other girls’ classifications.

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This marks the 25th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
