Title: HS Football – Trenton at Dixie County (Cross City)

Event Details: Join Donald Taylor (Play-by-play) for this key Class 1A-District 7 game from Cross City.

Trenton is the newcomer in this district.  They dominated District 6-1A since coach Andrew Thomas took over four years ago with four straight league titles & a 16-0 district record.  Thomas is 49-5 with a state title and a state runner-up finish in four plus seasons

Trenton beat Dixie County, 17-14, in the state semifinals in 2013 en route to their first state title.  They had lost to the Bears in the regular season that year, 18-7.  The visiting Tigers, ranked 2nd in the state, are unbeaten (3-0), including a 48-13 win against No. 2 Port St. Joe in a match-up of the previous two state champions.  In that game Tre McCleese had a game-high 91 yards rushing and Gainesville Sun Super 11 selection Hamp Cheevers had a pick-6.  Cheevers is a playmaker. He had 21 total touchdowns in 2014 (11 receiving, seven rushing and three interception returns), averaged 20.3 yards per reception (22 catches for 447 yards) and 8.3 yards per rush (66 carries for 551 yards).

Dixie County is 24-3 over the last two seasons plus, including back-to-back 11-1 seasons.

These teams have met 7X in the past six years with Dixie County leading the series 4-3 since 2009

Dixie County won at Trenton last year, 48-25, to snap Trenton’s 22-game home win streak.  Running back Julian Robinson had 283 yards rushing.  Robinson is a Bethune Cookman commit and member of the Gainesville Sun’s Super 11 team.  He rushed for 1,843 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior and has 61 carries for 231 yards this season.  Aaron Thomas, who was 22-2 as the starting QB, got moved to WR new QB Kyle Chesser (junior) is 26-of-49 for 437 yards in three games

The Bears, who have been to back-to-back state semifinals, lost eight players on defense but just about everyone is back on offense.  Trenton has a very physical defensive line, while the jury is still out on Dixie County’s.  The game in the trenches may prove to be the difference in this one.
