Our Sonic Player-of-the-game for Thursday, Jan. 26, is Madison Johnson of the Gainesville girls’ basketball team.
Johnson, who finished with eight points, helped rally the Hurricanes to a 44-43 win at The Rock. The junior hit two 3s in the second quarter, which sparked a 17-5 run, to help lead GHS back from a 15-5 deficit after the first quarter
Her play at both ends of the floor were key in the Purple Hurricanes (20-2) seizing the momentum and avenging one of their two losses this season. The Rock won at Gainesville, 42-36, on December 15.
Up next for GHS is the Class 7A-District 4 tournament. The ‘Canes finished 8-0 in the conference to earn the No. 1 seed.
As the top seed, the Hurricanes will face the winner of Monday’s Lake Weir (Ocala) vs. Columbia (Lake City) game on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Forest (Ocala).
Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Sonic Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift card & certificate courtesy of Sonic of Gainesville & Ocala.
