Gainesville – The top overall team remains the same in the second FHSAA state baseball rankings for the 2017 season.

Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy is off to an 11-0 start and is ranked No. 1 in the country by some media outlets. The Mavericks went 3-0 since the first rankings, including two wins against ranked opponents, to hold on to the top spot in ThePrepZone.com’s all-classification rankings.

They won at Class 6A #6 Plantation American Heritage, 7-1, and also defeated 5A #4 Ft Lauderdale Pine Crest.  The defending 6A champs, who have won six state titles in the past seven years, are also ranked No. 1 the Class 6A rankings.

Another nationally-ranked team, Fort Myers Canterbury, is ranked second overall and first in Class 3A, while another No. 1, Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley (9A), is third overall.

Miami schools Palmetto & Columbus, ranked second and third respectively in Class 9A, round out the top five.

Jacksonville schools Providence and Sandalwood are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively.  The No. 6 Stallions are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A thanks to an early schedule that has included a win over Class 9A Sandalwood and a few nationally-ranked teams.

Venice, which has been to five straight state semifinals, is eighth overall.  The Indians (10-2) are ranked No. 1 in Class 7A.

Rounding out the top 10 of the all-classification rankings are a pair of Tampa schools – No. 9 Jesuit and No. 10 Plant.  Jesuit is ranked second in Class 6A behind Archbishop McCarthy, while Plant is ranked No. 1 in Class 7A.
