- September 23 is Barry Johnson of the Eastside (Gainesville) football team. Johnson showed true senior leadership in the absence of six defensive starters in Eastside’s emotional 13-10 win against North Marion to remain undefeated in district play. According to Eastside coach Jeff Parker, Johnson ‘motivated guys who haven’t played before. That was just as important as the plays he made on the field.’ In addition to his inspirational leadership off the field, and in the game the week prior against Belleview, Johnson finished the game against North Marion with 12 tackles, four for a loss, one sack and four pass break-ups.
