Sonic Player-of-the-Game (Oct. 20) – Jaleeco Gaskins (North Marion)

Published:

Sonic-logoOur Sonic Player-of-the-game for Friday, Oct. 20, is Jaleeco Gaskins of the North Marion (Citra) football team.

Gaskins helped lead the Colts to a 26-7 win at Belleview, denying the Rattlers of the outright Class 5A-District 6 championship. The defense set the tone, but he was a workhorse and helped keep the North Marion defense on the sidelines.

The junior carried the ball 27 times and rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown.  He also had a 40-yard TD run called back because of penalty.Jaleeco Gaskins_North Marion

With the defense allowing less than 80 yards of total offense and Gaskins keeping the defense fresh, the Colts were able to dominate in both phases in winning their 12th straight against the Rattlers.

The win helped North Marion (2-6, 1-1) keep its slim playoff hopes alive. Belleview (5-3, 1-1) and Eastside (4-4, 1-1), which beat North Marion 14-12 on Sept. 29 to deny the Colts an outright title, hold the edge in points for the playoff spot.

Belleview will look to bounce back at Tampa Catholic next Friday, while North Marion returns home to face Trinity Catholic (Ocala).  The Colts close out the regular season against winless Class 8A Winter Springs on Friday, Nov. 3.

Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Sonic Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift card & certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
