Our Sonic-Player-of-the-Game for Friday, Dec. 12, is Jimmy Johnson of the Eastside (Gainesville) boys’ basketball team.
Johnson scored a game-high 19 points to help lead the Rams to a 55-35 win against North Marion (Citra) in a Class 6A-District 6 game.
The senior scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half, including 10 in the decisive third quarter as the Rams outscored North Marion 25-11 in that period.
Johnson also knocked down three three-pointers and had a four-point play during the third quarter run as Eastside extended a 26-16 halftime lead to 51-27 at the end of the third period and rolled from there.
A total of eight players scored for the Rams, with sophomore Anthony Richardson also in double figures with 10 points and junior Anthony Wright chipping in nine, all from behind the three-point arc.
Eastside, which improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the district, will travel to district rival Dunnellon on Friday.
