Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Thursday, Oct. 6 – Creed Whittemore (Buchholz)

Published:

The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Thursday, Oct. 6, was Creed Whittemore of the Buchholz football team.

The senior quarterback finished with four touchdowns as the host Bobcats routed the rival Hurricanes, 49-0, at Citizen’s Field to win their fourth straight game in the series.

Whittemore’s first carry of the game went for 31 yards and his second was a 3-yard scoring run to give Buchholz a 7-0 lead just 1:03 into the game. He added a 9-yard touchdown run, followed by a pair of touchdown passes.

The University of Florida commit hooked up with senior wide receiver Jaren Hamilton on a 48-yard scoring play for a 21-0 lead late in the first quarter.

“That was an RPO (run/pass option),” Whittemore said. “We saw the safety come down. We threw it behind him. A guy that fast is pretty easy to get behind the defense.”

His final touchdown was an 11-yard pass to running back Quinton Cutler in the back of the end zone with 8:26 to play in the second quarter.

Buchholz (5-0) will host Oakleaf (Orange Park) next Friday, Oct. 14, in a key Class 4S-District 3 game. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
