The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Tuesday, Oct. 9, is Nohe Nossa of the Buchholz (Gainesville) volleyball team.
It may have been Senior Night for the Newberry volleyball team against county opponent Buchholz, but it was a senior on the opposing team who stood out.
Senior libero Nohe Nossa gave her team an early lift with her serves, and she helped ‘pick up the balls’ coming from opposing senior Madison Baynard, a Stetson commit, as the visiting ‘Cats (10-11) swept the Panthers (16-8), winning on the road 25-22, 25-14, 25-21.
“I feel like I really executed and helped out the team,” said Nossa, who turned 18 years old on Saturday. “I definitely stepped up my serves and got us an advantage to the game.”
Nossa finished with 18 digs, 20 service points and two aces for Buchholz, which snapped a 5-game losing streak.
“We played really well compared to how we’ve been doing in the past,” she said. “We really stepped up and played as a team and all together.”
The Bobcats will close out the regular season on Wednesday night at Forest (Ocala), followed by the 8A-District 4 tournament next week.
Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
