Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for March 26 – Gavin Miller (North Marion)

Sonic-logoThe Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Tuesday, March 26, is Gavin Miller of the North Marion (Citra) baseball team.

The sophomore helped lead visiting North Marion to a 7-3 win at Eastside (Gainesville) in a Class 6A-District 5 game. The lead-off batter for the Colts scored a game-high three runs and had the game-winning RBI.

In the top of the first, Miller was hit by a pitch to start the game. He went to second on a stolen base, advanced to third on a fly out to center, and scored on a passed ball to give the Colts a 1-0 lead in the first inning.Gavin Miller North Marion POG 032619

In a decisive four-run 2nd inning, he drove in what would prove to be the game-winning run with a double to left field for a 4-0 lead. Miller would later score on an error by right fielder Derrick Williams as North Marion (7-4, 3-0) built a commanding 5-0 lead early.

After Eastside (2-6, 1-4) battled back with two runs in the fourth to make it 5-2, Miller helped the Colts extend the lead in the sixth.

Sophomore Wyatt Campbell, who picked up the win on the mound in just two innings of work, tripled to right field. After a sacrifice fly to center field by Jake Blair scored courtesy runner Chance Heinen, Miller reached on an error by the leftfielder and scored his third run of the game on Eastside’s fourth error of the night.

It was the ninth straight win in the series for North Marion, which will host Eastside on Thursday night.
