The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Friday, Oct. 21, was Jailen Ruth of the Hawthorne football team.
In a game that they pointed to at the beginning of the season, Ruth and the Hornets’ defense set the tone in a 13-0 win against visiting North Marion (Citra).
“It felt real good because they had beat us in 7-on-7 two years ago but it feels better to beat them when it really counts,” Ruth said.
The Washington State commit had a 31-yard pick-6 with 2:07 to play in the third quarter for a 6-0 lead in what would prove to be the game-winning score.
Hawthorne (7-0) will host Dade Christian (Miami) next Friday, Oct. 28.
Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
