Sonic Drive-In-Player-of-the-Game for Feb. 9 – Christian Miller-Cardwell (GHS)

Sonic-logoOur Sonic Drive-In-Player-of-the-Game for Friday, February 9, is Christian Miller-Cardwell of the Gainesville boys’ basketball team.

In his final game against rival Eastside, the senior didn’t disappoint.

Miller-Cardwell scored a game-high 21 points as Gainesville defeated Eastside, 61-52, to split the regular season series against the Rams.  The senior was consistent throughout, scoring at least five points in each quarter.

Christian Miller-Cardwell vs. Eastside 020918The senior scored five points in the first quarter as the Hurricanes built a 17-9 lead after the first quarter.  He added five more in the second quarter, including his second shot behind the arc, as the ‘Canes extended it to a 33-20 lead at the half.

Miller-Cardwell scored 11 of his 21 in the second half as GHS (20-5) secured its fourth consecutive 20-win season.  It was the sixth consecutive victory for the ‘Canes and their 10th in the past 11 games.

Gainesville will host next week’s Class 7A-District 4 tournament as the No. 1 seed after finishing 8-0 in league play this season.  GHS will play in the district semifinals on Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday night’s game between Forest (Ocala) and Lake Weir (Ocala).

Eastside (20-5) will play in the Class 6A-District 6 semifinals as the No. 2 seed against #3 Santa Fe (Alachua) on Tuesday at North Marion.  The Rams tied North Marion at 7-1 in the district, but the Colts won the coin toss to secure the top seed.
