Prep Zone Power Poll – 2015 Baseball Poll #2

GAINESVILLE – For the second consecutive week there’s a new team on top of the Prep Zone Power Poll.

Williston is the new No. 1. The defending 1A state champions received five first-place votes following a 3-1 week that included wins against 5A state semifinalist Clay (Green Cove Springs) and 5A Ponte Vedra at the Tournament of Champions in Jacksonville.

The Red Devils (11-2) lost to defending 3A state champion North Florida Christian (Tallahassee), 3-2, in eight innings in the opening game of the tournament. Both of their losses this season have been in extra innings. Williston also defeated 5A regional finalist North Marion (Citra), 7-4, last week.

Previous No. 1 Creekside (St. Johns) (12-1), which is ranked third in Class 6A, received one first-place vote but dropped from first to second following its first loss of the season to 7A Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville), which moved into the top 20 for the first time at No. 16. The Stingrays (10-4) have won six in a row.

Bolles (Jacksonville) moved up two spots to third. The Bulldogs (11-3), who received the other first-place vote, are ranked fourth in the state in Class 4A.

Jacksonville schools University Christian (12-4), ranked second in 3A, and 4A #6 Trinity Christian (12-4) round out the top five at fourth and fifth, respectively.

Buchholz (Gainesville) (10-3), which was ranked as high as fourth in the state in the Class 7A rankings, remained sixth, followed by Forest (Ocala), St. Joseph (St. Augustine), South Sumter (Bushnell) and Umatilla, which is receiving votes in the 5A state poll, in the top 10.

Following a 3-0 week that included two wins against previous No. 16 Stanton (Jacksonville), Class 5A Baker County (Glen St. Mary) (13-3) moved into the top 20 at No. 15, along with 4A Keystone Heights at #18 and 6A Gainesville (10-4) at No. 20.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
