Gainesville – There was little movement in the Prep Zone Power Poll as we head into the final week of the regular season, but there were a couple of changes.

Mainland (Daytona Beach) continues be a unanimous selection as the top overall team. The nationally-ranked Bucs (9-0) defeated Seabreeze (Daytona Beach), 26-9, to clinch the 6A-District 9 title. They are still ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, and they received all 10 first place-votes in this week’s poll.

First Coast (Jacksonville) remained second. The 8A-District 1 champions defeated district foe Sandalwood (Jacksonville), 34-7, as their record-breaking QB De’Andre Johnson had 354 yards passing and four TDs.

The Bucs (9-0), who have held seven of their nine opponents to seven points or less, host 10th-ranked Ed White (Jacksonville) tonight. The 6A-District 3 champion Commanders (8-1) moved up one spot into the top 10 after defeating Terry Parker (Jacksonville), 48-3, for their eighth win in a row since a season-opening loss at #14 Raines (Jacksonville).

South Sumter (Bushnell), which wrapped up 5A-District 6 a few weeks ago and was off last week, remained third. The Raiders (9-0) have a chance to go undefeated for the third regular season in a row with a win at Leesburg in the regular season finale tomorrow night.

Defending 3A state champion Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) jumped defending 5A state runner-up Clay (Green Cove Springs) this week. The 5A-District 4 champion Blue Devils (8-1), who were idle, dropped one spot to fifth.

The Conquerors (7-2) won the Class 3A-District 1 title with a 42-0 win against Providence (Jacksonville), holding the state’s leading rusher to 48 yard on 28 carries. Jamauri Wakefield entered the game averaging 289 yards per game, but he was shut down by Trinity Christian, which moved up one spot to fourth in this week’s poll.

Class 5A Suwannee (Live Oak) (9-0) remained sixth, 7A Oakleaf (Orange Park) (9-0) is still seventh, while St. Augustine and Trinity Catholic (Ocala), both 8-1 on the season, remained eighth and ninth, respectively.

Bolles (Jacksonville) (7-2), which is ranked 12th, along with No. 13 North Marion (Citra) (7-2), #16 Flagler Palm Coast (7-2), #17 Columbia (Lake City) (7-2), and No. 20 DeLand (7-3), which won its final six games to get into the postseason and makes its first appearance in the top 20, are the only teams in the poll that did not win their district, but they are all headed to the playoffs as district runners-up.

Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) is back in the rankings at No. 19. The Crusaders (7-1) defeated Baker County (Glen St. Mary), 35-14, on Friday, to force a three-way shootout on Monday in 5A-District 3, then defeated Westside (Jacksonville), 22-0, to win the district title.

Meanwhile, previous No. 17 South Lake (Groveland), which advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, fell out of the poll after a 55-44 loss to Edgewater (Orlando), the second consecutive loss for the Class 6A Eagles (7-2).

Plus, previous No. 14 University (Orange City), which began the season by winning its first five games but then lost to DeLand, 7-6, and lost last week to Lake Mary, 41-27, also fell out of the poll. The Titans (8-2) finished third in 8A-District 2 and did not make the FHSAA playoffs.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
