We’re counting down to the #1 team in the preseason football Prep Zone Power Poll with a look today at No. 18.
The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
No. 18 Ed White (Jacksonville) (6A) (8-3)
How the season ended, with a 30-point loss in the playoff opener, is still felt around the Commanders. The good news for Ed White – it lost very little personnel from last season. Included in the returnee pile are Javarius Davis, a one-time Georgia Tech commit, and sensational backfield mate Taylor Thomas (averaged 13 yards per carry last season). Those two are sticks of dynamite with the ball in their hands. Ed White’s thinking has changed considerably. With so many talented players back, it will try and incorporate more of those players into different schemes in order to have more talent on the field at the same time. The Commanders talked early last year about opening up the offense, yet didn’t do it. Expect that to change.
Info on Ed White gathered from Friday Night Football magazine.
