The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
No. 10 – Raines (Jacksonville) (4A) (9-3)
The Vikings’ best shot at playing for a title in years came last season. After defeating district rival Bolles in the regular season, the Vikings fell to the Bulldogs in the postseason. Bolles went on to play for the 4A state title, falling to nationally-ranked Booker T. Washington (Miami).
This season, the Vikings are looking for a new running back and there will be a competition for the quarterback spot. They will have to hold on to the ball (1.5 giveaways per game). There will be a lot of newcomers to the team who will have to step up at some key positions. However, the Vikings will be athletic and competitive in 2014. Expect another trip back to the postseason.
