ProvidenceProvidence is still a unanimous No. 1 but there’s a new No. 2.  Both teams also face each other this week.

Gainesville – As we head into the final week of the regular season, there’s a new No. 2 in the Prep Zone Power Poll.

Providence (Jacksonville) is still a unanimous No. 1. The Stallions (22-1), winners of nine in a row, defeated Potter’s House Christian (Jacksonville), 46-41, on Friday, and previous #13 Flagler Palm Coast, 70-50, last Monday at the MLK Tournament at Ribault (Jacksonville). Their only loss came in a tournament to a team outside the Sunshine State.

However, Jackson (Jacksonville) fell from the #2 spot.

The Tigers (19-1) had their 20-game winning streak snapped at the buzzer by Ed White (Jacksonville), 43-42, in the Gateway Conference championship game. The loss dropped Jackson from second fourth, while the Commanders (15-5), who also defeated #9 Wolfson (Jacksonville) in the tournament, moved up a couple of spots from ninth to seventh.

This Saturday night, top-ranked Providence and previous No. 2 Jackson will face each other at the Hoop Exchange tournament at Ed White, which will play Class 8A Spruce Creek (Port Orange) in the final game.

Lake Minneola, the top-ranked team in Class 6A, and Gainesville, which is ranked second in the 6A state poll, are ranked second and third respectively in the Prep Zone Power Poll.

The Hawks (18-3) only played once last week and defeated #18 Vanguard (Ocala), 84-60, to edge the Hurricanes (20-2) for the No. 2 spot. GHS, which has won nine in a row, moved up one spot to third following a 3-0 week.

Bolles (Jacksonville) remained fifth. The Bulldogs (20-1) are currently ranked second in the Class 4A state poll, just ahead of Jackson which is third in the 4A rankings, but the Tigers are ahead of the ‘Dogs in the regional rankings.

Class 6A Deltona (21-2) is ranked sixth, followed by 5A Ed White, 5A Suwannee (Live Oak) (17-5), 6A Wolfson (20-3) and 1A Hawthorne (21-2) in the top 10.

Seabreeze (Daytona Beach) (6A) (15-4) is back in the poll at No. 17, but previous No. 16 Hamilton County (Jasper) (16-7) dropped out, which makes #10 Hawthorne the only 1A team in the poll.
