Trinity Christian, Bartram Trail (St. Johns), Nature Coast (Brooksville), Raines (Jacksonville), and The Villages round out the top 10.

Previous No. 16 Chiefland dropped out of the rankings, while Class 8A Spruce Creek (Port Orange) moves into the rankings at No. 20 following a 63-8 win against Seabreeze (Daytona Beach).

The Prep Zone Power Poll powered by Anytime Fitness – 2019 Volleyball Poll #2

GAINESVILLE – Trinity Catholic (Ocala) holds down the top spot in Week 2 of the inaugural all-classification regional volleyball rankings.

The Celtics (2-0) received eight of the nine first-place votes in The Prep Zone Power Poll, while Buchholz (Gainesville) received the other first-place vote.

Spruce Creek (Port Orange) (2-0) jumped up from No. 6 last week to No. 2 in this week’s poll after impressive wins over #14 Middleburg and #17 Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) last week, while Fleming Island (Orange Park) (1-0) remained at No. 3 after a win over Pedro Menendez (St. Augustine)

New Smyrna Beach (1-0) remains at No. 4 after a win over Episcopal (Jacksonville), while defending state champion Vanguard (Ocala) (2-1), formerly No. 2 last week, slipped down to No. 5 this week after dropping a tough match with Buchholz.

Buchholz (3-0) made the biggest jump in the poll after sweeping South Lake (Groveland) and two upset wins over previously No. 2 Vanguard and No. 5 Santa Fe (Alachua) last week. That enabled the Lady Bobcats to jump from off the radar with no votes last week to No. 8 in this week’s poll.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Aug. 23 – Darrius Powell (Santa Fe)

The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Friday, Aug. 23, was Darrius Powell of the Santa Fe (Alachua) football team.

Powell gave the Raiders an early 7-0 lead on a 30-yard TD run just one minute into the game as Santa Fe won at Newberry, 22-7. It was the second straight win in the series for Santa Fe (1-0), which won at Newberry for the first time in eight years.

The senior, who finished with 106 yards on 17 carries, added a four yard TD run with 3:39 to play in the second quarter which capped a six-play, 35-yard drive to give the Raiders a 20-7 lead at the half.

Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Aug. 23 – Quan Smith (Buchholz)

The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Friday, Aug. 23, was Quan Smith of the Buchholz (Gainesville) football team.

Smith had a game-high 190 yards rushing as the Bobcats defeated Eastside, 21-20, to win for the 7th straight time in the series.

His first rushing TD came on a 44-yard run to give Buchholz (1-0) an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. He finished with 108 yards in the opening half.

The junior had Buchholz’s only score in the second half, catching a swing pass from junior quarterback Jack Hevesy and racing 40 yards untouched for a TD. The extra point proved to be the difference in the game after a late TD by Eastside (0-1) brought the Rams within one but the extra point was blocked.

Smith then finished it off with a game-clinching 46-yard run that prevented Eastside from getting the ball back.
