- Friday, October 19, is Ralph Webb of the Gainesville football team. Webb had 152 yards rushing and three touchdowns as Gainesville clinched the 6A-District 5 title with a 34-19 win over Vanguard (Ocala). The senior had all three GHS touchdowns in the first half as the ‘Canes (8-0, 3-0) built a 21-6 lead. Webb had scoring runs of 9, 17 and 3 yards.
Trophy Shop Athlete-of-the-Week Presented by Mark McGriff’s State Farm Insurance of Gainesville for the week of October 15
- Kenny Scott of the Buchholz (Gainesville) football team. Scott carried the ball 36 times for 344 yards and four touchdowns as Buchholz kept its playoff hopes alive in 7A-District 1 with a 48-28 win at Chiles (Tallahassee). Scott, who received an offer from Florida A&M after the game, also threw a 28-yard touchdown pass and caught three passes for 16 yards. He accounted for 388 of the Bobcats’ 557 yards.
