On Friday night the Williston Red Devils traveled to Ft. White to take on the Indians. In a game that appeared it would be close, Ft. White controlled both lines of scrimmage and captured all the momentum, beating Williston by a score of 32-12.

At the beginning, it looked as if Williston was going to make a game of it. Cornerback/Running back Quinyon Mitchell intercepted quarterback Dylan Blair on Ft. White’s first possession, and then Williston marched right down the field to score. Williston quarterback CJ Strange hit Jermon Collins for a touchdown, and just like that, Williston was up 6-0.

However, it would be almost all Ft. White from here on out. The Indians scored 19 unanswered points to take a 19-6 lead. They scored with a mix of the run and the pass, with a Stanley Maxwell rushing touchdown sandwiched between two Blair passing touchdowns, one going to Rahman Paul, and the other to Derrick Roberson.

Williston would score one more time, a touchdown run from Mitchell, before Ft. White would score twice to put the game away. One of those scores was a touchdown pass to Roberson, and the other a quarterback sneak for Blair, which ended up being the final touchdown of the night for either team, making the final score 32-12.Williston logo

The Red Devils struggled all night to defend the run, which then opened up the passing game for Ft. White. On offense, Williston’s line was the driving force behind the poor play. They failed to control the line of scrimmage, with Ft. White’s defensive line creating constant pressure all night. The pressure pushed Strange to throw two interceptions, and gave him and Mitchell little time to let plays develop in front of them before they had defenders bearing down on them.

Williston, now 1-4, will be at home next week, where they get an 0-4 Belleview team, that is a shell of itself from last year, for Homecoming.

Ft. White, 3-2, will be at home for a makeup game against Providence School.
