How the top 20 fared

PZ - square(none)Here is how the top 20 teams in The Prep Zone Power Poll fared this past weekend.  The new poll will be released on Wednesday night.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.

1. Mainland (Daytona Beach) (7) (6A) (3-0) – d. Lake Wales, 53-9; QB Denzel Houston, who capped Mainland’s opening drive with an 11-yard TD run, finished with 204 yards passing and 41 yards rushing.

2. Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) (3) (3A) (1-1) – d. University Christian (Jacksonville), 42-12; Conquerors recorded 11 sacks, three tipped passes and two interceptions

3. First Coast (Jacksonville) (8A) (3-0) – d. #14 Raines (Jacksonville), 62-7; QB De’Andre Johnson had four TD passes and now has 93 in his career, just two from tying Tim Tebow (95, 2003-05)

4. South Sumter (Bushnell) (5A) (3-0) – d. East Ridge (Clermont), 45-0; Raiders win their 26th regular season game in a row; they are allowing an average of two points per game

5. Bolles (Jacksonville) (4A) (3-0) – d. #8 North Marion (Citra), 17-6; ‘Dogs give up their first points of the season; Christian Bermudez rushed for 113 yards and a TD

6. Clay (Green Cove Springs) (5A) (3-0) – d. Orange Park, 33-13

7. Trenton (1A) (2-1) – LOST to #15 Dixie County (Cross City), 48-25; defending 1A state champion Tigers had their 22-game home winning streak and 13-game overall winning streak snapped as the Bears score the final 20 points of the game

8. North Marion (Citra) (5A) (2-1) – LOST to #5 Bolles (Jacksonville), 17-6; Colts had two different opportunities from the Bulldogs’ 2-yard line and came away with no points

9. Fletcher (Neptune Beach) (7A) (2-1) – d. #18 Sandalwood (Jacksonville), 45-14; Jessie Liptrot had three interceptions, including one he returned 105 yards for a score and another 48 yards for a TD, along with two carries for 71 and 29 yards that went for touchdowns

10. Columbia (Lake City) (6A) (2-1) – d. Buchholz (Gainesville), 28-23; RB Lonnie Underwood rushed for 124 yards and two TDs on 19 carries; Ole Miss commit Zedrick Woods had back-to-back sacks beginning at the 4 to prevent the Bobcats from scoring the go-ahead-touchdown

11. Trinity Catholic (Ocala) (3A) (2-0) – d. 5A Eastside (Gainesville), 45-21;

12. St. Augustine (6A) (3-0) – d. Ridgeview (Orange Park), 31-0; QB Cole Northrup was 11-of-15 for 214 yards, including three first half TD passes to Fred Gilliam, who finished with five catches for 153 yards; Yellow Jackets have yet to allow a second half point this season

13. Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) (5A) (1-0) – OFF

14. Raines (Jacksonville) (4A) (1-2) – LOST to #3 First Coast (Jacksonville), 62-7

15. Dixie County (Cross City) (1A) (3-0) – d. #7 Trenton, 48-25; junior RB Julian Robinson rushed for 283 yards and four TDs, including three of which were 50 yards or more

16. Bartram Trail (St. Johns) (6A) (1-1) – 51

17. Gainesville (6A) (1-2) – LOST at RV Madison County, 48-23; ‘Canes

18. Sandalwood (Jacksonville) (8A) (2-1) – LOST to #9 Fletcher (Neptune Beach), 45-14

19. Flagler Palm Coast (8A) (2-1) – LOST to RV University (Orange City), 35-0

20. Union County (Lake Butler) (1A) (3-0) – d. Keystone Heights, 41-0;

Warner Christian (South Daytona) (2A) (1-1) – LOST to Father Lopez (Daytona Beach), 32-20

Suwannee (Live Oak) (5A) (3-0) – d. Santa Fe (Alachua), 21-12; Bulldogs win despite only 97 yards of total offense in the second half; RB Denzel Washington had 13 carries for 81 yards in the win

Madison County (4A) (3-0) – d. #17 Gainesville, 48-23; Cowboys avenge 2012 home loss to the ‘Canes

South Lake (Groveland) (6A) (3-0) – d. Forest (Ocala), 44-14; Eagles, who are averaging 48 points per game, scored the final 37 points

Fleming Island (Orange Park) (7A) (1-2) – d. Middleburg, 42-6; 13 different players combined for 276 yards rushing

Ed White (Jacksonville) (6A) (2-1) – d. Mandarin (Jacksonville), 26-3

West Port (Ocala) (8A) (2-1) – LOST to Vanguard (Ocala), 14-13; Wolfpack, which started 2-0 for the first time in school history, scored on the final play of the game but had the extra point blocked

University (Orange City) (8A) (3-0) – d. #19 Flagler Palm Coast, 35-0; Titans have outscored their three opponents, 130-0
Chiefland (1A) (2-1) – LOST to Hamilton County (Jasper), 33-7
