On Wednesday night at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, the defending 1A state champions defeated Trenton, 43-32, in the state semifinals to advance.

The Lady Hornets (20-4) will play Ponce De Leon (21-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m. for the Class 1A state title.

“It’s always a great feeling to get a win in this part of the season,” said Hawthorne coach Cornelius Ingram. “I’m proud of my girls. I’m happy they’re enjoying this moment. I definitely feel great about advancing.”

Hawthorne senior Jayla Williams scored a game-high 25 points. Trenton, the 2019 state champion, was led by junior Jordan Douglas with 13 points.
