Title: HS Football – Gainesville at North Marion (Citra)
Event Details: Join Mike Ridaught (Play-by-play) and Tyler TenBieg (Color) for this Alachua County vs. Marion County showdown. The game will also air on AM-1230 in Gainesville, AM-900 in Ocala & FM-100.1 in Ocala.
The visiting Purple Hurricanes have won three in a row since a season opening loss at Columbia (Lake City) and are receiving votes in 6A but they travel to 5A #4 North Marion, which is loaded with D-I talent. GHS is seeking its seventh consecutive playoff appearance while the Colts have been to the playoffs 15 consecutive seasons.
North Marion and Gainesville are meeting for just the ninth time. The Hurricanes lead the series 5-3
Key Players for North Marion:
Caleb Seiler – Senior QB; been playing great; proud of him; 3-year starter; good confidence; 42-of-76 for 701 yards (175 per game) with 6 TD’s & 3 INT’s
Freddie Swain (6’ 172) – double covered but still leads Marion County in reception yards (21 catches for 356 yards); No. 32 senior in Florida (247 Sports; Texas & Florida leaders, but he will take official visits to Tennessee & Miami in October & USC in November)
Justin Watkins (LSU commit) –best sophomore in the country according to his coach; almost 600 all-purpose yards with 6 TD’s in two weeks; a game changer; No. 16 sophomore in the country (No. 3 in Florida) according to 247 sports; putting up unbelievable numbers (180 yards rushing last week filling in for injured starter Cameron Mackey); two TD runs over 20 yards, plus an 86-yard kickoff return for a TD last week against unbeaten Pasco; had a pair of rushing touchdowns and a 6-yard TD reception on a screen pass vs. Vanguard
Blake Vinson (6’5, 285) – No. 8 junior OT in Florida; possibly a future Gator; transfer from Trinity Catholic (Ocala)
The Colts’ defense has a couple of negative yards rushing games. They are giving up just an average of 222.8 yards per game.
Jordan Woods (6’4, 250) – Strong side Defensive End (Offers Florida, Miami, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Michigan, West Virginia, Tennessee, among others) – top 100 player as a DE; had a rushing TD last week vs. Pasco; blocked a couple of PAT’s against Vanguard;
Elijah Vuckovich – Senior OLB; has been all over the field; two-time player of the week; dominates the game; leads the team with six sacks
GHS finished with 364 yards of offense while holding Lake Weir (Ocala) to 85 total yards of offense in a 30-6 win, so they’ve done a good job in correcting some things on defense since the Columbia game, but this will be a tough test on the road against a very good North Marion team. GHS’ defense only allows 208.3 yards. GHS quarterback Caelan Christian (55-of-96 for 746 yards with six touchdowns) has plenty of TD’s but this could be a defensive game, perhaps similar to the game in 2008 which GHS won 19-17.
