Gainesville Sun preview:
OCALA FOREST (4-0, 1-0 District 5-6A) AT GAINESVILLE (2-2, 1-0)
Last week: Gainesville def. 5A North Marion 22-21; Forest def. 5A Eastside 20-18
Preview: Critical game for likely a playoff berth. Both teams have games at No. 3 Vanguard upcoming (GHS on Oct. 14; Forest on Oct. 28), in which tonight’s winner would probably play the Knights for the district title. The visiting Wildcats are led by junior kicker Connor Davis (son of former Gator kicker Judd Davis), who has a team-leading 41 points, hitting on 10 of 10 field goals, with a long of 43 yards, and 11 of 11 on extra points. He ranks second in the nation in field goals. Running backs David Bishop and Logan Sims combine for 643 yards and 8 TDs. Junior Willie McKnight ran for 135 of his team’s 233 yards, with a 12-yard TD in last week’s GHS win over North Marion. Sophomore QB Luke Matthews, held out last week for precautionary reasons, could return tonight. Dustin Johnson and Jawan Lee both played in last week’s win and could again if Matthews is held out. Senior linebacker Thomas Kemp shined defensively for the ‘Canes with eight tackles, two for loss, caused two fumbles, and had two fumble recoveries that included a touchdown.
