GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Booker T. Washington Tornadoes did it again this season, winning in a close game of similar fashion over Miami Central and convincing most voters to put them on top heading into Week 3.

The Tornadoes, which won in a 21-20 victory Friday night at Miami’s Traz Powell stadium, picked up 14 of 19 first place votes this week. The Tornadoes (3-0) will face off against Miami Carol City (0-2) this week.

St. Thomas Aquinas (1-0) which picked up the other five first place votes remains at No 2., only 10 points behind to Booker T. Washington. The Raiders which were off this past week will travel to West Point, NY this week for a highly anticipated game against Don Bosco Prep out of New Jersey.

Miami Central (2-1) remains at No. 3 despite the one-point loss to No. 1 Booker T. Washington. The Rockets will face Coral Reef on the road this week.

Mainland (Daytona Beach) (2-0) which has shutout its first two opponents of the season rises up one spot this week to No. 4. The Buccaneers shutout Port Orange Spruce Creek 42-0 last week at home. Mainland will travel to Lake Wales which received votes this week.

American Heritage-Plantation (1-1) rises back up two spots to round the top five after winning 30-26 over Miramar on Saturday evening in a doubleheader showdown at Miramar.

Rounding out the top 10 includes Armwood (2-0) which holds steady at No. 6; Miramar (1-1) which was ranked No. 4 last week fell to No. 7 after the loss to now-No. 5 American Heritage-Plantation. First Coast (Jacksonville) (2-0) and Dr. Phillips (2-0) rise up one spot each to the No. 8 and No. 9 positions respectively while Cocoa (1-0) falls two spots from No. 8 to No. 10 despite a 31-17 win over Titusville (1-1).

Flanagan (2-0) of Pembroke Pines rises three spots this week from No. 14 to No. 11 as the biggest riser as well as Naples (2-0) rising up to No. 18 from No. 21. Osceola – Kissimmee (1-1) was the team to take the biggest fall going from No. 13 last week to No. 21 this week. Osceola was defeated by Lake Mary 29-28 in overtime last week.

Two new teams entered the poll this week which includes No. 22 Lake Mary (2-0) after it got a big win over now-No. 21 Osceola – Kissimmee, while Oak Ridge (2-0) checks in at No. 25 after getting a big win at now-No. 16 Apopka in Week 1 and shutout Gateway – Kissimmee last week.

Florida’s HSFB Top 25 is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters from around the state. Florida’s HSFB Top 25 is the only all-classification poll voted on through out the state during the season by members of the media.
