Chiefland Indians (Class 1A-District 7)
2013 Record: 7-3
Head Coach: Aaron Richardson
Key Players: G.G. McClendon (DB, Sr.), Alphonso Timmons (RB, Sr.), Austin Vincent (OL, Sr.), Willie Brannon (DL, Sr.), Billy Hammond (LB, Jr.), Vanden Fehmerling (TE, Jr.)
Outcome: The Indians have shown considerable progress. Chiefland snapped a 23-game losing streak in Richardson’s first season, which included a .500 record in 2012, followed by seven victories and a near playoff appearance last season in loaded 1A-District 7.
Because of its physical style of play, the Indians will be able to run the football and play great defense to win games. They are built to be a grind it out physical offense that will be led by Timmons (2,500 yards rushing last two years), who is a strong and physical runner that is very durable. They will have good size up front on both sides of the ball with Brannon (6-5, 275) and Vincent (6-4, 260), an Ivy League recruit.
Defensively, the Indians will be a swarming and attacking defense that will be young. Timmons and Hammond will look to replace a good group of linebackers. McClendon (5 INT) will have to lead a young secondary and be a leader on defense. If the Indians can develop their quarterback, fill some homes in their kicking game, get stronger and stay healthy, they will be able to compete for a district championship.
