Last year’s state champs (on the field), Armwood has had its share of offensive difficulties of late, not scoring more than 19 points in a game since Oct. 12, a span of five contests. That said, the Hawks’ defense has been plenty good, only allowing second-week opponent Delray Beach American Heritage to surpass 21 points this season. Unbeaten Gainesville – on the other hand – has put up at least 21 points in every game but two, and those were victories against Columbia (17-14) and Madison County (14-9) – two teams still alive in the FHSAA playoffs. The speedy Hurricanes’ defense also has stepped up of late, not allowing more than 10 points to any opponent in the last month. This a rematch of a playoff game won by host Armwood, 17-14, a year ago. Florida fans in Gainesville get a sneak peek of two players – Armwood’s Alvin Bailey and Gainesville’s Chris Thompson – who will wear orange and blue next year.
