- December 9 is Jake Altom of the Cornerstone Academy (Gainesville) football team. Altom had 101 yards rushing, 207 yards receiving and four TD’s as Cornerstone Academy defeated Donahue Catholic (Ave Marie), 56-33, to win the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools (FCAPPS) state championship. The senior helped lead the Cougars to a perfect 11-0 record.

- Tuesday, December 17, was Eric Williams of the Lake Weir (Ocala) boys’ basketball team. Williams scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter as Lake Weir (Ocala) defeated Eastside (Gainesville), 53-48, in a Class 5A-District 5 game. The senior helped lead the Hurricanes (7-3, 3-0) back from a 10-point first quarter deficit against the Rams (5-2, 2-2).
