PZ - square(white)GAINESVILLE – Sometimes it’s good to be last.

Orlando Olympia, which continues to be the top-ranked team in the county according to the MaxPrep Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings, is the final team to go unbeaten in the Sunshine State. They’re also hoping to be the last team standing.

The Titans (19-0), who seeking their first state baseball title, remained the top team in Class 8A of theprepzone.com state baseball poll.

Olympia, along with Lake Worth Park Vista, are not only the top two teams in the state overall but Nos. 1 & 2 nationally. The Cobras (19-1), ranked second in 8A, are seeking a return trip to the state semifinals.

Nationally-ranked Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked No. 1 in Class 7A. The Raiders (15-3) are seeking their first state title since 2003.

Winter Haven, Venice and St. Johns Creekside, all of whom made the Class 6A state semifinals last season, are ranked first through third, respectively, in this week’s rankings. The top-ranked Blue Devils (17-3), who defeated 7A #3 Haines City and Lakeland at the Blue Devil Classic, have won six in a row.

Rockledge, a state semifinalist last season, is back in the national rankings at No. 48. The Raiders (19-2) are still No. 1 in Class 5A, just ahead of 2nd-ranked Lynn Haven Mosley, which is ranked 18th in the national poll.

Williston continues to be the only defending state champion to be ranked No. 1. The Red Devils (18-2) are ranked No. 1 in Class 1A for the seventh consecutive week.
